The NHS 10-Year Plan is a key part of the government’s commitment to shaping a health service that meets future needs and challenges. The plan is designed to tackle current pressures whilst laying the groundwork for a more sustainable health service.

In February of 2024, Healthwatch Thurrock were commissioned by TSAB (Thurrock’s Safeguarding Adults Board) to work towards the production of an independent report based on whether people felt their involvement with Thurrock’s safeguarding team was personalised to their own individual needs and requested outcomes.

In 2022, the new Dementia SET strategy was finalised. This strategy brings together key organisations from health, social care, and the voluntary sector, all working towards a shared goal: to make Southend, Essex, and Thurrock places where people can live well with dementia.

A look into access barriers and challenges for the residents of Thurrock

'Maternity Matters' work emerged as a result of various factors at both local and national levels. These influences created the perfect opportunity to take a closer look at the experiences of expecting and new parents in Thurrock, with the aim of enhancing services both locally and nationally.

The report highlights the numerous initiatives we have initiated aimed at improving health and social care delivery and patient experiences. From organising public consultations to producing insightful reports, our efforts have helped shape a more responsive and patient centred health and social care system in Thurrock. We’ve made sure that the perspectives of patients and residents are central to decision making processes.

The Transfer of Care Hub (TOCH) project group were keen to commission a qualitative report on the lived experience of discharge pathways in Thurrock. This briefing has been produced to capture the lived experience of both professionals and patients to help inform opportunities for service transformation and change.

Thurrock Stroke Project is a support service for Thurrock residents who have suffered a stroke. It provides the opportunity for stroke survivors and their carers to meet together and chat over a cup of tea.
They currently meet every Monday between 2-4pm at the United Reform Church, 31 Bradleigh Avenue. There is a £5 fee for yearly membership and a £3 a week cost to attend. They are an affiliated member of the Stroke Association.

We received a number of complaints & concerns regarding accessibility for Blue Badge users regarding supermarket parking. We decided to explore this further & gather lived experience of badge users within Thurrock who use local supermarket parking.
